T-Mobile to Launch Next Android Smartphone This SummerT-Mobile, the fourth-largest U.S. carrier, will launch its second smartphone running Google's Android operating system in early summer.
"We have no more specific details at this time, but wanted to say we remain very committed to the Android platform and are excited about taking this next step," said Cole Brodman, T-Mobile's Chief Technology Officer.
Brodman said the new smartphone will run Google's codenamed "Cupcake" version of the operating system, which is currently rolling out to T-Mobile G1 customers.
T-Mobile has sold over than a million G1 phones, made by HTC since it started selling them last year.
The news comes days before Palm plans to launch its much-anticipated Pre smartphone and new WebOS operating system -- a competitor to Android. Apple is also expected to announce a new version of its iPhone next week.
